Conduct

The conference has been designed to be an intensive, intellectually challenging session to stimulate your thinking about yourself, your life, and your country. To gain the most from the YLC experience, requires being ready to learn and interact within the YLC environment, being attentive, and being respectful of others. Also while being a part of the YLC, keep the following in mind:

ALL SESSIONS MUST BE ATTENDED -- NO EXCEPTIONS.
You must remain with and work with your group.
You may not change dorm rooms.
You may not leave the campus of Space Camp/Aviation Challenge except with your group as scheduled for the YLC or as approved by the YLC Director or Deputy Director and parent/guardian.
Illicit Drugs, Alcohol, or Weapons will NOT be tolerated

For every privilege you have as conference participant, you have an equal responsibility to the Youth Leadership Foundation that is sponsoring this event, your sponsor, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, and to the other participants.

Upon your return to your home community, make the most out of your YLC experience by talking about it and putting it into practice with your friends, in your school and in your community. A good first step is thanking your school and sponsoring organization for helping you step up and toward your future.

      Dress Code

How one dresses is an expression that hints to attitude toward character and conduct, and like it or not, usually influences how other people react to you or their willingness to interact with you.  Another aspect to consider in dressing is to dress appropriately for an activity or the day’s activity given the time available for changing.

The conference is structured around division and teams to experience group dynamics and unity of purpose. It also recognizes that most of what you will achieve and be able to achieve as leaders, shakers and movers will be in the comfort, or discomfort, of mainstream business-accepted attire.  Saturday activities include jury trial with real judge presiding and commencement and will require dressing for the occasion.

To establish an aura of team unity quickly and maintain it throughout the conference, a Conference T-shirt provided at registration. The color of the T- shirt will be the same as that of the other students assigned to your team. With the exception of being dressed up Saturday and the light fitness activity each morning and inclement weather for outdoor activity, you will be expected to wear the T-shirt as the outer garment.

Saturday, we will dress up for the final day activities. Attire will be at least near business-attire - a minimum of short-sleeved dress shirt (collared and jacket) for the men (but ties and uniforms are encouraged) and equivalent attire for the ladies - NO EXCEPTIONS-   (See the photo at the bottom of the “What to Bring” page for examples of acceptable attire).

During conference meeting hours, our list of "What Not To Wear" is the following: Shorts, mini skirts, pants worn below the hips, sandals and shower clogs.

Our list of What Not to Wear at anytime during the conference is cut-offs, tank tops, shorts more than 3 inches above the knee, provocative neck lined items, items resulting in bare midriffs, mini skirts, pants worn below the hips, and any clothing with logos or lettering representing drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, violence or gangs.
